A bullet pencil?
(Preview)
Well, no ... I don't know whether this is, in fact, a pocket/purse dip pen, or someone's frankenthing. I like the "Magipen" logo, though; reminiscent of the old "Mephisto" pencil boxes. The nib is a Spencerian Congressional, in case anyone was wondering.

Wishful thinking?
(Preview)
I've been trying to discover whether anyone ever produced a clutch-type lead holder (not a propelling/automatic pencil) in 0.7 or 0.9 mm, and have had no success. Has anyone ever seen such a thing? While I'm at it, has anyone ever seen an Eagle Turquoise "Twelve" lead holder other than tha...

Pentel A525 "VOL-5"?
(Preview)
I have been able to find nothing at all about this fat blue plastic 0.5 mm pencil; does anyone know anything about it? It's 5-1/2 inches long and more than 1/2 inch diameter at the widest part. Marked "Pentel - 0.5 Pencil - A525 Japan" on the back of the (non-removable) cap, and "VOL-5&q...

My Unknown Inexpensive Sheaffer MP
(Preview)
This is a Sheaffer MP that is in nice condition, yet I know nothing about. Some kind of school pencil from the 1960s, is my guess.

A Smattering of USA Wooden Pencils
(Preview)
I finally gathered up the few wooden pencils in the house that I believe are of US origin, and grabbed a shot. I have no idea of the years they represent, but I imagine they are closer to the 1960s or later than older. No gems here, just some found around the house. So here they are... Top: A Thor Nationals #2...

Scripto Mechanical Pencils
(Preview)
During the 1960's-70's, inexpensive Scripto mechanical pencils were found in the hands of many of my elementary, middle, and high school classmates. I moved on from them when I went to college, and they kinda went away without my taking any notice. I still have a well-worn Scripto "Yellow Penc...

Mitsubishi Jaguar
(Preview)
Howdy, gang! In an inexpensive lot buy I grabbed mainly for an Esterbrook Dip-Less pen with a 9314 nib, I also received most of a Mitsubishi Jaguar 0.5 mm pencil, missing only the eraser and cap/button. I scrounged a cap that fits well enough for now, dropped some lead in and started clicking. No lead, j...

Ups and downs ...
(Preview)
Good: acquired a pretty little gold "REDYPOINT" pencil (S Ward / De Witt-LaFrance). Bad: all the inner moving parts fell out. Good: found the patent for this design with parts diagrams that would let me put it all back together. Bad: the one part that is still securely fixed inside the penc...

Not bad for five bucks ...
(Preview)
It belonged to this guy in 1942: Sir Jesse Hartman was Potentate of the Antioch Shrine in Dayton, Ohio at the time. It doesn't look as though he ever used this pretty rolled gold Redipoint pencil, though. I love being able to connect something engraved on a pen or pencil with its original owner.

Sheaffer/Sailor Ultra-Fineline pencils?
(Preview)

Miniliner pencils?
(Preview)
Howdy, group, I picked this one up on eBay just to see what it actually was: ? It's marked "DEMI-.3 MINILINER JAPAN" and nothing else. Google has failed me completely, and while the two-material clip looks somewhat familiar, I can't place it. It has a simple Pentel-type mechanism in 0.3 mm...

Another "What Am I?" pencil
(Preview)
This came in a lot buy, and apart from the advertising on the barrel, the only marking is "Joe Myers" stamped into the clip. It has patterns of grooves on the tip and barrel, similar to Dur-O-Lite repeaters and a Moore that Jon Veley posted to his blog, but the feed mechanism is not one I've com...

The Big Four of the Big Four

I posted this picture over at Leadhead's at the end of my show report.? Usually at a show, I'll come home with one really nice find from one of the "Big Four" manufacturers (Parker, Sheaffer, Wahl Eversharp and Waterman).? This show was really unusual in that I came home with a major find fro...

I now have four of these pencils in two distinct styles. One says "Japan" on the clip, and another says "Import" on the top of the knob. The clips on all four are identical in design. Does anyone know who made these things? Style 1: This one appears to have once had a gold wash on it. S...

Parker "51" cap-click repeater tweaking?
(Preview)
In a recent lot buy, I acquired a 3rd quarter 1949 gold-filled "51" repeater that's a bit stubborn. It feeds, but in very tiny increments compared to a couple of other "51" repeaters I have. I can't see any remarkable wear or differences in the mechanisms between the pencils, so...
