 Greetings I'm John I'm a Newbie here but everywhere else I'm
the "Old Guy". I'd like to thank Dennis Lively for leading me here.
Dennis is my adopted mentor and has serviced those snorkels
and vacumatics we novices perplex over.
  Parker 75s make up the largest part of my collection mostly
pre 1970 cisele FP. The rarest the French Fougere in sterling
a 65 flat top vermiel, a Titanium 75 and the 75 metal threaded
section FP.
  My sentimental favorite has to be the Eversharp Skyline in my opinion
one of the most underated FPs out there with one of the most over
enginered cap clips. The nibs from the super flex no pressure flowmaster
to a firm you could use for a center punch. Polish one today with your
dremel and a little Flintz silver polish.
  My pick for the next most collectable to rival even the Parker 75.
The Sheaffer Targa 1976-1996
  Well that's my story for today. My most illusive writing instrument
is the Parker 75 mechanical pencil in the vermiel made from unattainium.

I'm very happy to see you over here John & I'm glad I could help out with your pens. I agree the Targa is the next 75. It's a rock solid pen and dead on reliable. When I first got into pens I didnt think much of them, thought they were ugly & bad mouthed them. Then one day several years back I used one I'd cleaned up for a client that grabbed me by the shirt & said LOVE ME DAMNIT. I had no choice but to & from there it's all been down hill....lol

I only have 1 in the collection now. A Very nice lined chrome w/ a SS broad nib that is simply to die for and is one of my favorite daily writers.

Sorry, I just can't get excited about the Targa. Reliable...sure. Exciting...no way.

Here is to hoping a little back and forth about the merits of the Targa will generate a little activity on this board!

I too have never gotten into the Targa's although some of them have lovely finishes that really seem to pop. The only Targa I currently have is one of the Ivoire Harrod's Limited Edition Targas that although a bit slim for my tastes is a nicely done pen.

I have a 35 year old silver cross hatched 75 bought before it got a fancy name. I just rescued it from my wife's jewelry case where it had been a prisoner. I became an addict a couple of days ago. The pen writes butter smooth. It is the one I use to compare the 8 inherited pens. A couple of days ago, I stopped being an EBay virgin, and bought a "cigar" box of pens.
The 75 is my only first tier pen, and will more than likely so remain.
