The newest model from Bookworm Pens in China
is a little more conservative than
recent models.

The first customer review of the new Uranus
966 series is in.

After nearly 10 years, my favorite
convertible pen (rollerball/gel/ballpoint)
remains the Monteverde Charisma.

A note on using your Dollar brand piston
filler pen during the warmer months.

Bookworm 702 series fountain pens



A little more traditional in appearance than
some of the other offerings from Bookworm,
these are very classy-looking pens with a
flair all their own.

Full-sized pens, they measure 5-1/2" capped,
6-1/8" posted and 4-3/4" with cap held aside.
With the exception of Bookworm
702 subtly engraved on the clip, the
pens' metal rings are otherwise unadorned.

Removing the slip cap from the pen reveals
the hooded steel nib, which I
rate as
a western fine. The black section above the
hood is slightly concave around its
circumference, and I find this feature to be
particularly comfortable when writing.

Uranus 966 series



"First, let me say...I LOVE THEM ! The
966 is very cool looking, has a nib which
seems "just right" (just "write") as far as
line width is concerned, and has a snap on
cap which I always look for...for a more
rapid deployment!"

Monteverde Charisma convertible pens



Although the series has been retired after
many years, this is a pen that still sees
daily use at the Palace. I've always loved
its design and function. And, after nearly 10
years of daily use, its durability!

Dollar piston usage note



Usage note: A few customers have
written to say that their Dollar pen has
'burped' (a technical term ) a
drop of ink when the ink level becomes low in
the pen. Because the ink directly fills the
barrel in these pens, without the added
double insulation of a converter or
cartridge, when the ink level falls to 1/4 -
1/3 full, the heat from one's hand (or if the
outside temperature is high) can be enough to
cause the air in the reservoir to expand just
enough to force ink out of the nib. The
simple solution is to keep the pen filled
with ink beyond that level. This is similar
to, but usually less extreme than, what is
sometimes experienced by those on airplanes
whose fountain pens misbehave due to changes
in cabin pressure.
