Now that's what I'm talking about, PELIKAN M800 TO THE RESCUE!!!
My first high-dollar pen was a MontBlanc, a total POS pen that skipped, scratched, leaked, a real mess!
That experience ruined me on getting other fountain pens for more than 20 years, not knowing any better at the time thinking they were all garbage due to that one MB.
I have a gorgeous green striated "Old Style" Pelikan M800 now, like the one in the video, one that writes each and every time, never skips, never leaks, writes as smooth as sliding a polished ball-bearing over a film of NASA-grade-X1R synthetic lubed-glass and never, ever, ever had so much as a dry start!
That M800 is one pen that no one without mega-bucks willing to pay for it will ever get from me, maybe not even then.
I'm sooo glad to have seen this video, that I am not alone in my dislike of MontBlanc pens despite so many people having no problems whatsoever and loving the MBs they have.
I'm sure my first MB was likely to have been a fluke,, probably could have sent it off to be warranty repaired, but the wound is deep and I just don't even want another no matter how nice they are now.

I'm not laughing but I do have an ear-to-ear smile after seeing that video!
Almost feel like jumping up and down screaming "Yes, yes, yes, it happened to someone else, and at the worst possible time! I am not alone!!!" Teeheeheeheeheeeheeeheee, hilarious!

P.S.; no offense to the MB lovers out there, to each their own, I just don't ever want another one, unless maybe someone gives me one FOC to try.
Even then, I'd NEVER buy another after just that one bad experience, may not make sense to some but that's the way I feel to this day.

Yes, I saw this video this morning and it already made my day.

Now, I know that millions of reasons can be behind it, like the guy possibly forget even to ink the darn thing, but still, from a symbolic standpoint, that's exactly what I think about the two brands.

Go, Pelikan! The perfect modern writing instrument (for me, that is...)

I own 6 vintage MBs (4 MB 149 and 2 MB 146) and I wouldn't compare new MBs to the vintage ones. I also own two pels a 1987 m800 and 2004 m1000. My Pels are great but they are certainly not better than my vintage MBs. However compared to modern MBs, Pel has a more attractive price.

I agree with you George.

I cant stand modern MB's, while vintage models on the other hand will win 99% of the time with me.

Vintage mb wins over modern pelikan. Modern pelikan wins over modern mb. i couldn't even begin to choose vintage mb vs. vintage pelikan.

Help me fill in some cracks here. Where would ya'll draw the line between vintage and modern MBs? What accounts for the difference? Just general workmanship? Quality of body materials? Nibs? I always hear that vintage MBs are better, but I never hear many qualifiers for that kind of claim.

Not that the modern MBs are bad but in late 1986/1987, they changed their resin for a slightly more prone to shattering or brittling one. The piston was also smaller than in the post 1985 model and therefore the ink capacity was reduced, on post 1985 MB 149s ink capacity is 1.8ml instead of 2.2ml. What also changed the most was the nib design befor it was a short shoulders long tines nib and it became in the early 80's a broad shoulders short tines nib. Long tines meaning flex. Owning a 1966, 1972, 1977 and a 1979 MB 149 with various nibs I know what I am talking about.
However modern MBs are still having good nibs in terms of wetness and consistency compared to some italian brands like Aurora, Delta, Ferrari Da Varese, Visconti and Ancora. Bare also in mind MB nibs are not your standard or modified bock nibs, they are adjusted and hand made.
