His Nibs.com update -- Happy Thanksgiving all!
November 26th, 2009

Greetings everyone,

First, let me wish all of you a warm and
joyous Thanksgiving with family and friends.
Teresa and mine will be a bit different this
year, as we always spent it with my mother,
who passed away in February.

It's hard to believe it's been a month since
the last newsletter, but November had lots of
disruptions, from a foreign friend visiting
for a week on one end of the scale, to
multiple health issues and tests on the other.

Additionally, if the Chinese pen cupboard
looks a little bare, it's because one of my
main suppliers was away for about ten days.
However, a large restocking order is on a
slow boat from China (I hope not literally)
as of today, and pending being held up in
Customs, should arrive with lots of your
favorites in plenty of time for holiday gifts.

New models will also be arriving, but I have
doubts about being able to introduce more
than one or two in the time allotted, as
photographs need to be taken, descriptions
written, etc.

However, we are introducing one new
model in this newsletter...the Harlequin
series from Uranus...which will definitely
bring color to the season.

Also, expect more new pen stand designs in
the next newsletter.

Also, the Hero 329 -- the best value in
'Pendom' -- is back in all three colors.

Uranus Harlequin series

These slim beauties measure 5-1/2" capped or
posted, and 4-5/8" with cap held aside. The
painted cap and barrel makes for a
lightweight pen, so it can be used for
countless hours of writing without fatigue --
if anyone truly writes for countless hours
anymore!

Removing the slip cap -- which re-seats with
a secure click -- displays the hooded, or
semi-hooded nib (definitions differ!). I
would describe these as being equivalent to a
typical western x-fine nib.

Pen stand alert!

Although this photo shows the Black Onyx pen
stands that are already in stock -- and
perfect to give to that other fountain
pen collector with hundreds of pens -- I
hope to have a new series of acrylic stands
in stock by the next newsletter.

Just a hint...they incorporate color inserts
to match the color of your pens or
your decor!

Hero 329 back-in-stock

Here's the pen responsible for staring His
Nibs.com 12 years ago, when Teresa brought
one back for me from Hong Kong to add to my
fountain pen collection.

After getting more from her sister, I
auctioned a few of them on the nascent eBay
-- long before fountain pens were such a busy
category -- and 6 months later ceased being
the CIO of a logistics company to devote
myself to selling fountain pens full-time.

I haven't changed the price of this gem, nor
it's sister 330 pen, during those dozen
years. It still remains the best value in
'Pendom'.

"Hi, Norman: I am usually not a fine nib
fountain pen user; however, I must say that I
absolutely love the Hero 329! Though a very
fine line, it writes ever so smoothly and is
a joy to use. You may have converted a
medium-bold nib user. Best,"
C. H., Twinsburg, OH

"Norm, received the Hero today and must
confess that I was "taken back." A new
standard in my pen search. The Hero writes
smooth, slick and leaves a nice wet line as
it skates along the paper.... all for 15
bucks. A Parker 51 it ain't, but few 51's
write like the Hero."
R. W., Woodstock, GA

"Hello Norman: I just received the hero
329 pen, and I have to say that I am
completely satisfied with its great
performance, indeed is a great pen and it
definitely exceeded my expectations, the nib
is smooth and it just feels great on my
hand...it is just a pleasure to write with
such a nice fountain pen, and thanks to "his
nibs" the dream comes true.....Thanks for the
kindly note and the good service, count on me
as a loyal customer."
C. S., Newman, CA

On the blog...A 7-year-old plays table tennis and Pelikan slays Montblanc!

As many of you know, another passion in my
life besides fountain pens has been table
tennis. The November 25th blog entry has a
video of a 7-year-old girl from China
demonstrating her skill on the Ellen
show this week.

Having had a number of Chinese coaches myself
over my table tennis career, I've seen and
played quite a few similarly-aged Chinese
phenoms. I still have nightmares.

The November 21st entry shows one German pen
replacing another in Japan -- which is funny
in itself, considering how great Japanese
fountain pens are (never a prophet in one's
own land!).

Although the video doesn't quite capture it,
I'm assured that the Pelikan actually wrote!
