HisNibs.com update -- Tigers & Crocodiles, oh my!
May 13th, 2010

Greetings everyone,

We're now in the Chinese 'Year of the Tiger',
and Jinhao has just the pen to celebrate
it...and it's an overlay.

Our second Crocodile model -- the Silver Rain
-- joins the Tooled Leather series introduced
in the last newsletter.

We also have a new video of the recently
introduced Monteverde Prima pen
series...which has been difficult to keep in
stock since its inception.

is a Neanderthal!

Jinhao Tiger Overlay

In the Chinese lunar zodiac, this is now the
Year of the Tiger (which runs February 14,
2010 and ends on February 2, 2011). In
celebration of that event, Jinhao has
released the Tiger Overlay pen.

These are hefty, oversized pens, which
measure 5-5/8" capped, 6-1/4" posted (not
recommended) and 4-7/8" with cap held aside.
The reason I don't recommend posting the cap
on these pens is two-fold: first, due to the
added weight of the metal overlay (the pen is
lacquer-over-brass to begin with), the pen
becomes top-heavy, which is not ideal for
writing; second, I think there's a slight
chance that the overlay toward the barrel-end
could become scuffed with repeated cap
postings. In any case, that's a personal
decision, and you might find posting to be
comfortable -- although I find the un-posted
pen plenty long enough for easy writing.

Crocodile Silver Rain

Here we have a classy and understated slim
pen from Crocodile. The Silver Rain measures
5-5/8" capped, 5-3/4" posted and 4-3/4" with
cap held aside.

The subtle, rain pattern that's engraved in
the barrel and cap, is nicely offset by the
gold clip and narrow cap band. The only
adornment is the Crocodile logo near the top
of the clip.

Monteverde Prima video

I've now re-ordered the Monteverde Prima five
or six times since I introduced it in the
last newsletter. It's been a popular model,
to say the least.

I now have a YouTube video up on the series,
which I've embedded on the Prima page at His
Nibs.com. Just click on the link below to see it.

On the blog...Who you callin' a Neanderthal?

Well, the latest genetic research strongly
suggests that it's you! Read the May 8th blog
entry, which links to a paper in the latest
issue of New Scientist, which apparently
confirms that Homo Sapiens and Homo
Neanderthalensis did in fact interbreed, and
most of us have some genetic residue from
those trysts.
