HisNibs.com update -- Two from Jinhao December 8th, 2010
Hi everyone,
This newsletter introduces two new models from Jinhao...Pearl Windows and Starry Night. Neither is a bashful pen.
We've brought back some always-popular stocking stuffers, such as the Red Diva Lipstick ballpoint and leather compact, as well as the collectible car and pen sets from Monteverde.
The new Conklin Herringbone introduced in the last update has really taken off, just like the Crescent and Endura models before it. What's surprising -- at least to me -- is that so far the Spring Pink version has been the sales champ. I never can predict these things!

This is really a stunning pen. The Mother-of-Pearl inlays are of course all unique, so one pen will differ a great deal in appearance from another. Due to the grid pattern employed, it reminds me of a series of windows (there are eighteen panels or windows in all).

This was one of the most difficult pens for me to photograph, and I basically failed! This is a pen that looks completely different in sunshine, direct or indirect light. It's facets capture direct light in a kaleidoscope of reds, greens, yellows and blues. I -- and my camera -- just weren't up to it.

"The Monteverde Diva La Penne pen is absolutely one of the best ever!! Larger, longer pens don't easily fit in the pocket of my jeans. The La Penne is great! I keep it in my pocket with my coin purse & pocket knife and it writes EVERY time!! It's a silky smooth write, and comes in a great selection of colors (I got turquoise). It gets far and away more use than any other pen I have-it's so conveniently THERE when you need it!" S.G., Cincinnati, OH
"Hello Norman: The order arrived yesterday, in perfect condition of course. The pen is delightful. It will make a great birthday gift: the presentation box is amazing. Thank you!" S.P., College Park, MD
"What a creative pen! We've been playing with it this evening and having a great time. We also showed it to our next door neighbor who was absolutely convinced it was a new shade of lipstick until the nib came out." D.P., Gladstone, MOdiv

As usual, I've sold out of most of these by the beginning of December, but still have a few and may be able to order more this week.

The Conklin Herringbone series combines vintage appeal with modern bold style and elegance. Based on the overall design of the Conklin Duragraph model from the 1920's, the new Herringbone version takes the design into the 21st Century. The unique Herringbone pattern itself is achieved by using a very precise computerized engraving machine to cut the deep pattern on airplane-grade aluminum. This elegant pattern, reminiscent of the Conklin crescent shape itself, is seen underneath a special translucent colored acrylic and coated with several layers of epoxy for protection and brightness.

Hans Rosling's famous lectures combine enormous quantities of public data with a sport's commentator's style to reveal the story of the world's past, present and future development. Now he explores stats in a way he has never done before - using augmented reality animation. In this spectacular section of 'The Joy of Stats' he tells the story of the world in 200 countries over 200 years using 120,000 numbers - in just four minutes. Plotting life expectancy against income for every country since 1810, Hans shows how the world we live in is radically different from the world most of us imagine.
