Pens That Make Ink Look Great

I've been using Noodler's Ottoman Azure in my Namiki Falcon and love the color. From any other pen I just like the color, but from the Falcon the color is a deep, rich, Mediteranean Sea blue that gives me pleasure to look at. I am wondering if you other fountain lovers out there have a special pen in your collection that seems to show off any ink to its best advantage. Surely there exist other pens that can rival the talents of the Namiki Falcon.

Right now I'd have to say the Pilot 77 makes ink look good because I'm using Quink blue in it, and usually, Quink blue does nothing for me. :)

How about the reverse? What inks make a pen look great? I like J. Herbin Lie de The. No matter what pen I use it with, it comes out a nice golden brown color.

I think Noodler's Bay State Blue looks great in any pen.

I have an old Senator piston-filler that makes Lamy Blue-Black (the old iron gall formula one) look gorgeous (lovely shading, enough wetness). In another pen the Lamy Blue-Black looks chalky and unattractive.

Herbin Vert Olive looks too light from some of my dryer pens (more like yellowish-green olive oil), but from my Swan lever-filler (flex nib), Parker Vacumatic Junior (semiflex nib) and Pilot Vanishing Point (0.9mm cursive italic nib ground by Deb Kinney) it comes out an interesting darker and richer olive green color. Quite legible - I've used it for journalling this way.

Herbin Larmes de Cassis looks dull coming from my modern pens, but fantastic coming from my vintage BCHR Parker Jack-knife Safety pen.

There's really something to be said about finding out the successful pen-and-ink matches :)

It's true, not every pen likes every ink. Some combos work much better than others. I find that Diamine Majestic Blue and Noodler's Baystate Blue make any pen look good.

I have BSB and it is a gorgeous color, though I only use it in one pen. ;) And I just ordered Diamine Majestic Blue. So yey!

At present I am using parker Quink Turquoise in a Sheaffer made in Canada Snorkel that is Agua /Pastal Blue in colour that I recently restored.The two colours together look great.

Jor412, how are you liking Majestic Blue? It's one of my favorites because I has a nice sheen to it and it flows well from my dry Pelikan 200.

It's not in my hands yet. :) My friend who lives in New Jersey is visiting relatives here and she has my bottle, among other pen goodies. I'm seeing her this evening and I'll post as soon as I try it out. I hope it's my dream blue. I'd like to settle on my "forever colors" and so far, I've only settled on: perle noir, lie de the, and poussiere de lune. I also like Diamine Syrah but I may switch to Diamine Red Dragon. And I'm still on a quest for the right green for me.

I've pretty much settled into BSB, Bad Belted Kingfisher, Majestic Blue, and PR Arabian Rose on occasion. I'm really interested in R&K Scabiosa though. I'll buy a bottle soon and see if it makes it into long-term rotation. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on DMB.

The only blue that I and my wife use is Parker Quink Permanent Blue.We like it and it always works well.

I'll be heading over to the US later in the year and look forward to adding some of these colours to my collection (almost have more inks than usable pens!! That isn't too many.). biggrin 

It isn't that we don't have some decent inks here but the range you seem to have there will fill some of my gaps. The only one that I believe has been readily available in Oz that I have heard you may have trouble getting is Coral Sea.
