HisNibs.com update -- Recent testimonials
February 10th, 2012

Greetings,

Now on my third re-stocking, the Monteverde Invincia Stylus is definitely the hit of the new year. It appears that a fountain pen with a capacitive touchscreen stylus was what everyone was waiting for.

An equally popular pen -- but over a longer duration -- is the Monteverde Prima. I wanted to share a recent email testimonial I received, as it captures the anticipation we've all experienced while awaiting the arrival of a new fountain pen.

On the Conklin front, I want to mention the beautiful Symetrik, which sometimes gets lost in the fray due to its smaller size and fairly slim profile. It's time to take another look.

I've been notified that there will be three new colors of the Conklin Crescent-filler model, replacing the discontinued line (I have one pen left in stock as I write this). I'll profile the new versions shortly, in the next newsletter.

Monteverde Invincia Stylus

"Hello Norman! I'm sorry to be so late replying - it's crazy busy for me lately! I received the pen super quick! I really like it! I had never even seen a Monteverde fountain pen, much less an Invincia, so I had no idea what I would be getting. Very much a man's pen. Feels almost like it would be made from brass. Like the metal threads. It had a little hitch in it's get-a-long at first, but I cleaned and flushed it well and filled it with Caran d'Ache Carbon (what else would you put in a stealth black pen! J ). I don't use the stylus much, mostly because I forget I have it. My wife has the MV stylus ball point and she uses her stylus all the time on her Thrive tablet. I only have an iPhone. All that said, Thanks! I really enjoyed doing business with you!"
K. M., Papillion, NE

"Hi Norman, I received the pens yesterday. I am happy to report that all 4 pens [Yellow Filigree and Uranus 966 pens] work great right out of the box! I have been using fountain pens for many, many years and have bought more than my share. I have found that buying pens online is pretty tricky. I generally prefer to go to a store and try out the specific nibs, to make sure the alignment, flow and smoothness are what I expect. I have had mixed experiences even with high end pens like Montblanc (I even took a pen to their repair center, but it has never worked quite right). I really like Lamy pens, but I would not buy them online either, because of the variations in the nibs. The reason for mentioning this is that your shipments are the exception. I have now (between this last order and the previous one) purchased about a dozen pens from you. Every one of them has had great flow, smoothness and alignment. Every one. Thank you again for your attention to detail and as always, your handwritten, sealed note."

"The Monteverde Invincia arrived today. Thanks for getting it out to me so fast. I've had a chance to play with the stylus, and it works like a dream. I'm looking forward to inking it up so I can use the other end of the pen."
J. C., Cathedral City, CA

Monteverde Prima

"Hi Norman, you may well imagine what kind of a state I was in at work all day. My wife had called earlier in the day to tell me that a package had arrived from His Nibs. My Pen! With meetings all day and a lot of code to write, I couldn't just bail out of the day and drive home to meet my new Monteverde. I had the Parker with me at work and in its task of note jotting, it sufficed. Well, not really. Knowing there is a new fountain pen waiting at home jaundiced my view of the venerable Parker that has been with me since 1985. 4 pm and I'm out of the office like a shot.

2 hours later, I pull into my driveway. My wife has been prepped so she knew to open the package and prepare the bowl of warm water with 2-3 drops of detergent. I immediately set to work opening the pen, extracting the ink converter, and giving it a nice bath in gently soapy water. Like a good nurse who knows her job, my wife was ready with the bowl of clean water for the final rinsing bath. While I was rinsing, she was preparing the Noodlers bulletproof purple for the initial filling. When I was ready, she cleared the way to the bottle and removed the cap. I carefully filled the converter (twice to remove the air bubble) and wiped it's little chin to remove excess ink. Into the pen it went. When I was ready to write, my wife was ready with the journal. She had opened it to the first fully blank page and set it in great light and at the right height for me to simply turn from the ink bottle and to the journal.

Bless her heart, she had earlier found my favorite recording of Bela Bartok's 2nd piano concerto and queued it up on the turntable. Stylus met groove at about the same time as nib met paper. It was magical. Bartok was reputed to be a man who loved a good fountain pen and his music reflects this. Especially Piano Concerto #2. I was inspired by the music, but more importantly, I was inspired by my new Monteverde. Everything about this pen is gorgeous. The nib is a beautiful silver, the blue striped barrel is a just spectacular. With the cap posted, the pen immediately showed the elegance and grace I've come to expect from a fountain pen. As You said, the medium Monteverde nib leaves a fine trail of ink on the paper. I love this nib. It is perfectly tuned and the writing experience was profound. I just finished writing in one of my journals -- the one with the smoothest paper. I started writing with my new Prima and was remarking on how wonderfully smooth it felt, not to mention how fine the line is. For giggles, I pulled out my trusty Parker (that I have always considered to be silky) and finished my writing. I was astonished (yes, actually astonished) that the Parker was much less wonderful than the Monteverde Prima. I will be coming back to you for more pens. Count on it."
J. A., University Place, WA

"I would like to order a Monteverde stub nib fountain pen in black using pay pal. Also thank you for the blue one I ordered recently. It is a favorite. I like the stub nib tremendously."
B. B., Portland, OR

"I received my order yesterday and I'm delighted with my purchases. The Monteverde Prima is a wonderful pen when fitted with the Stub nib. It is surprisingly easy to use and I can see it becoming my pen of choice. The finish is superb and the pen represents excellent value for money. Many thanks, Norman, and I'll be ordering again soon !!"
P. W., United Kingdom

Conklin Symetrik

"Hi Norman, I tested Symetrik for several hours. Already filled many times, simply so enjoyable and I could not stop writing. It is really a terrific writer. Ink flow is super (wet!) and I really love it. It really looks so beautiful and this beauty writes great as well. Several hours of writing is easy with no fatigue due to its feather-like weight & excellent ink flow. What a terrific writer! I would never know these are such wonderful writing instrument without your reviews and presentation. Thank you again for introducing these nice pens to us and your great customer care/supports."
H. J. A., Hillsboro, OR

Conklin Crescent-filler

"Hi, Norman (your Inky Lordship) - I was just reading the most recent HisNibs.com update and wanted to send you a quick email to say thank you for then pens I've purchase from you over the years. I've got something like 10, of various makes and prices. The shining star is, of course, my Conklin Crescent! Still, I have an abiding fondness for the Pilot 78Gs, the Duke Blue Spyder, the Heroes (329s and Victorian) - I could go on, but you get the picture. In other words, all of them. They have given (and continue to give) me hours of writing pleasure. I'm not in the market for anything new at the moment, but rest assured I will return to make purchases as budget permits. Thank you for making such a unique assortment available. I will always be a devoted fan! Your faithful customer (and vassal)"
L. K., Chicago, IL

"You don't need special materials to make breathtaking, realistic art. At least, you don't if you're as talented as French photographer and illustrator Sarah Esteje, who often uses nothing more than a Bic pen to create stunning work."
