HisNibs.com update -- Lanbitou and Angel ornaments
November 30th, 2013

Greetings,

If you're like me, you were inundated with Black Friday offers from every store in existence these past few days! Sorry to send you more email. Although His Nibs.com doesn't have a storefront, I am a small business -- and am reaching you through the Web -- so let's call this a Small Business Saturday/Cyber Monday newsletter!

I have a large re-stocking order on its way from China, and I'll send out a quick note when those pens arrive. Today, however, I'm introducing three new pen models and four Angel ornaments from my wife Lai Yee.

On the pen side, we have three models from Lanbitou, which are detailed further on in the newsletter. In keeping with mini-pens, the Pocket Rocket http://www.hisnibs.com/pocket_rocket1.htm is now joined by the Space Arrow http://www.hisnibs.com/space_arrow.htm. Both make great stocking stuffers. Even mini-stockings!

As for the Angels, my angel Lai Yee, has handmade ornaments to grace your Christmas tree, doorway or car's rearview mirror. And as a holiday special, any website orders of $50.00 or more -- be it pens, ink, pen rolls...anything -- will entitle you to an Angel ornament http://www.hisnibs.com/angel_ornaments.htm for free (just let us know which of the four patterns offered you'd like).

As this newsletter goes out to a mailing list of thousands of customers, please understand if there's a delay in answering your email queries or orders after one of these is sent. We will respond in order received and as soon as possible!

Join us on our Facebook HisNibs.com fan page which can be reached directly at https://www.facebook.com/HisNibs1. Come join us for what has become a lively meeting place for news about pens, ink and handwriting.

Lanbitou Flower series fountain pens

I'll just tease you with this one photo. You'll have to go to the website to see all four models! These oversized beauties measure 5-2/4" capped, 6-1/4" posted and 5" with cap held aside.

The four blossoms are sharply-rendered, and next to each flower is the Chinese character for the blossom that's depicted.

Unscrewing the threads between the section and barrel displays the piston converter -- with ink agitator -- for bottled ink. The pen will also fit international-style ink cartridges, such as those from Private Reserve (including the larger MAXI cartridges).

Lanbitou black Pocket Rocket

Somewhat reminiscent of the best-selling Speeno pen I carried years ago (sorry, this hasn't been available for several years), the Pocket Rocket is a pen that will fit anywhere, and perfect for those times when a sequestered fountain pen is the only way to go.

The pen measures a scant 3-3/4" capped, an eminently comfortable 5" posted and a virtually unusable 3-1/8" with cap held aside.

Angel ornaments by Lai Yee

Collect one, collect all four -- or receive one free with your website order of $50.00 or more.

Just in time for the holidays and Christmas, Lai Yee has created these fun Angel ornaments, designed to hang from your tree, fireplace mantel or doorway (maybe even your car's rearview mirror ).

Handmade and sewn with the same material that she uses for her pen rolls http://www.hisnibs.com/pen_rolls.htm, they measure approximately 6-1/2" high (not counting the ribbon) and 5-1/4" wing tip to wing tip! They're stuffed with polyester-fill and love.

They also make great handmade gifts to give to those you're visiting or sending off presents to this holiday season, at a price that won't break the bank.

Lanbitou Space Arrow

Like it's 'brother' the Pocket Rocket http://www.hisnibs.com/pocket_rocket1.htm, the Space Arrow is a diminutive pocket pen that posts to become a full-sized writer. It measures 3-3/4" capped, a respectable 5-1/4" posted and a still-useable (for smaller hands) 3-1/2" with cap held aside.

No, the pen isn't made by Parker...despite the arrow clip. Lanbitou makes that pretty clear with its artsy, two-colored Space imprint directly underneath the clip, as well as Chinese characters and model number.

Lanbitou Chevrons fountain pens

The Lanbitou Chevrons is a slim, mid-sized pen, measuring 5-1/2" capped, 6-1/8" posted and 4-1/2" with cap held aside.

This is a striking pen, in either finish, with a repeated chevron-pattern inscribed in the metal of the barrel and cap. Although the pattern is just discernible to touch, it's actually a very smooth-feeling texture. It's just enough of a design feature, at a distance, to provide a very nice visual characteristic to a streamlined pen profile.

On the blog...20 "Forgotten" Words That Should Be Brought Back

"Languages are living things that shift and evolve over time. If you look at the history of the English language, from Anglo Saxon through the Great Vowel Shift to what we consider Standard English today, you'll notice that it has undergone some spectacular changes over the centuries. Some basic words have stuck around through the ages, like "father", "house", "egg", "boat" and so on, but just as new words developed over time, other words were discarded along the way.

Many others from Shakespeare's time through to the early 20th century have fallen out of common usage, and we are undoubtedly the poorer for it. Here are 20 words that could only serve to add a bit more colour to our daily lives if they happened to come back into regular use."

Follow the link below to read all of the words, but I thought you'd appreciate this one:

"12. Uglyography

noun

Poor handwriting, and bad spelling.

His uglyography was so heinous that his essay was used as kindling, but the flames extinguished themselves rather than be tainted by association."

See the November 30th entry here for the list of words - http://hisnibs.blogspot.com/

Norman Haase
