Permalink Closed

Manufacturer: Sheaffer

Year of production: 1932 One year only

Country of Origin: USA

Model: Balance

Filling System: Lever filler

Color: Blue ~ Commonly called Black & Blue

Material: Celluloid

Clarity: N/A

Nib Material & Line Width: 14K Sheaffers #3 exfine/fine. It's on the dry writing side of things. 4.75-5/10

Trim Material: 14K GF

Trim Condition: Brassing to the very top of the clip & a stripe across the face of the clip ball

Imprint Condition: Strong. 7.5/10

Engravings/Personalization: N/A

Capped Length: 5 3/8"

Posted Length: 6"

Outer Diameter Cap: 1/2"

OD Barrel: 5/16"

Working Condition: 100% ready to go.

Overall Grade: 7.75/10

Issues: There are only 2 issues with this pen & both are simply par for the course. The clip brassing & the barrel has discolored slightly. Not horribly, but enough to give it a slightly dusky tone to the blue's.

Comments: Those of you who regularly read my posts know I hate the word "rare" & just don't use it unless a pen is truly in that club. While this isn't a rare pen, it most certainly pretty uncommon to say the least.

Other Notes: This is the largest of the 3 sizes Sheaffer made in this model

Must appoligize for having dropped off the face of the earth for a few days.  Life got REALLY crazy. . . you know CIA, FBI and B. B. King (someone will get that reference).

Most folks list that pen as a one year only color but actually Sheaffer acted much like a car company with it's pens.  They generally came out with new models in the fall or maybe late summer.  The blue color came out in the fall of 1931.  The picture is from an October Sheaffer mailing to dealers.

I've been meaning to update the Sheaffer color thread with that information.  A cool pen in any case.  Don't have any of that color myself as I generally collect lifetime pens.
