I'm guessing it's a salesmans sample. What I REALLY want to know is if this beauty is GF or solid 12K. Regardless for the kingly sum of $4 shipped. i think I did ok.
PeteWK, your our resident go to Sheaffer guy. Any thonghts on this one?

Thats what I thought too. I saw it late last night w/ a .99opener, no reserve & $3 shipping. I tossed $5 at it & forgot about it. Then was delighted when i checked the won folder. Paid 7 on the way in. Hope to see it late this week.
I'll do a little research on it & flip it back out into the 'bay next weekend & make a few bucks on it. If it's as clean as it looks & is a legit salesmans sample it's worth a bit more than my $4 investment. very good to excellent condition I was thinking it would go in the range of $30-40 or so. What do you think Jack?

While I'm not into that type of pen/pencil, I think your estimate is about right, particularly if there is someone out there lurking who has the matching pen.
I can tell you, it took me mighty long to get all of the matching pencils to go with my Sheaffer Snorkel collection.
Agreed, If someone had the matching sample pen that would be an awesome set to see/own.
I knowwhat you mean by being difficult to match pen/pencils up. Try doing it for an entire manufacture, like me & the Wearevers...lol.
It's crazy. I've been hard core collecting Wearevers for a dozen plus years now & I'm STILL seeing new stuff on a weekly basis. Last week I found a 'china marker' (listo style) by Wearever that I didn't even know existed until I saw the auction.

Thats a pretty one too. It's a Pioneer in the white pearl & black veins model from the mid/late 30's '33-37/38 or so. It's got a beautiful faceted cap & barrel & what i call the humped diamond clip. (for the hump in the middle & the diamond on the clip ball). The original nibs are in the less than club. Cheap thinly plated, no tipping - spoon style nibs. HOWEVER, with a 14K nib upgrade (Sheaffer Feathertouch & #3 nibs drop right in) these are awesome pens. I've identified over 25 standard production colors/patterns in the Pioneer/Supreme model lines. The Supreme is the same pen, but with a smooth barrel.
Fully restored, prenib upgrade $30-45 isn't bad for one of these. The one you missed out on is pretty discolored. Better colors can be had with a bit of looking.

Don't misunderstand me at all. They are very cool pens all around. From the black & white bulls eye jewels (also a less common black & red 'pheasnt eye' jewels model) The humped diamond clip is a 'borrowed' style variant from the waterman 94/3 models. The faceted barrel feels awesome in your hand. Being vintage celluloid pen is very light in the hand & will warm as you use it. Let me tell you there isn't any thing that feels like warm vintage celluloid in the hand. Sort of a cookies in winter smell/feel....lol.
The pen is on the smallerish side of things. 4 7/8" capped, 5 3/4" posted. just shy of 9/16" at the cap band. 8.5/16" but doesn't feel small in your hand. Honestly, drop in a good nib and you have a sweet pen that will clean up & write very well.
