Has anyone had experience in repairing pesky cap cracks in the Sheaffer Balance pens? A couple of pens have caught my eye on ebay recently, but have a minor crack or two from the lip of the cap to the gold band; thus reducing my interest immediately.
Is this a terminal condition, or can it be fixed relatively easily?
Thanks.

Yup, it's a faorly easy repair. All you need is some 100% pure acetone (any beauty supply shop will have it) a natural hair bristle brush, a magnifier to see up close & a small clamp.
All you'll have to do is brush some of the acetone down in the split. Let it start to disolve the material just a little bit & then gently clamp the cap lip to hold it closed. Let it set for a week minimum. Take off the clamp & buff the seam down. Problem solved.

thank you dennis for this info, it came in handy. i just got a venus hooded pen with a hair line crack at the base of the cap. i don't wanna return it for refund cos' i like it and writes very well.
i'm assuming waht you wrote here applies to the venus??????
It will apply it it is a celluloid cap. If it's plastic you'll need to use tenax. It's a superb plastic welder.
Rub the cap in one spot with your thumb, let the friction build up some heat until it's uncomfrotable, them give it a sniff. Does it smell like camphor, a semi floralish chemical smell. If yes then it's celluloid. No smell & it's plain old injection molded plastic.
