With regard to the black ends of pens of the barrel or cap, say Duofolds, when the black plastic/rubber fades to a yellowish-grey colour, can anything be applied to them to bring them back to their former glorious shiny black?
Thanks.
Gerard.

Syd "The Wahl Nut" Syperstien had a superb product for the black hard rubber parts.
The site has changed & it looks like he's selling it as a HR knob reblackner. I'd ask him if it's still good/safe to use on pens before ordering. If it's the same stuff do yourself a favor & get some!

PMBHRPPNo9 Black Hard Rubber blackener is still available. I was recasting the website and may not have had all the BHR pages up when all that was seen was GREAT KNOBS!. GREAT KNOBS! is formulated for dashboard knobs and switches in vintage cars. Actually that formulation was developed before the Pen Potion No9. If you go to this link you'll get right to the Pen Potion page.
I had a HBR duofold junior once that was practically olive green. I used Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish and it turned out beautiful--shiny and black. It's probably too aggressive if you're working over an imprint though.
The mag wheel cleaners are indeed aggressive,. And for good reason. They are petroleum based which breaks down the rubber and and more abrasive than simichrome. Non-petroleum, ammonia based is the better way to go. That's why I did the PMBHRPPNo9 in the first place. The "community" was looking for a dye that would not remove any surface material, would block UV, etc.
