I'm a technical writer for a local trades school. I've been using fountain pens since college. My first pen was a 1980s Pilot 55 with a cracked cap - I rescued it from a friend who was going to throw it away. I wrapped the cap in black electric tape and used this pen until I graduated, when my dad noticed I liked pens and gave me an MB Chopin. This was followed by an early 90s Sheaffer No-Nonsense, and my first piston-filler, a Senator. Parker Vectors came and went. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I learned to bid in online auctions, and then suddenly I had a few more pens!
I acquire pens to use, I think their beauty to me is in large part due to function. While I have modern pens I love, I also have a few vintage pens that get daily use. There is a merry band of fountain pen lovers here in Manila, and we meet every other month at noisy-but-fun lunches, discussing pens, inks and papers.
