HisNibs.com update --
Mark Twain comes a'calling

Greetings everyone,

Conklin pen finally has enough stock on hand for me to re-introduce the Conklin Mark Twain Crescent Filler pens. It only took a hundred years or so.

The latest from Crocodile I call the Diamond Cut series. A very classy-looking pen.

The new Jinhao Dancing Dragons overlay pen will have you dancing yourself.

Conklin Mark Twain Crescent Filler

The Conklin Pen Co. introduces the Mark Twain Crescent Collection, an exact replica of the original Conklin crescent filler used and promoted by Mark Twain.

Mark Twain expressed the virtues of this unique self-filling fountain pen in a series of advertisements in which he stated "I prefer it to ten other fountain pens, because it carries its filler in its own stomach, and I can not mislay even by art or intention. Also, I prefer it because it is a profanity saver; it cannot roll off the desk."

The Conklin Pen Manufacturing Co. was one of the real fountain pen innovators at the turn of the 20th century. The Conklin Crescent is also considered the first successful, mass-produced self-filling fountain pen, and was the first to make use of a flexible rubber ink sac as a reservoir.

Crocodile Diamond Cut series

The diamond cut pattern on cap and barrel really makes the pen shimmer in light, and provides a pleasing texture to the pen as well. The pen is otherwise unadorned, with the exception of the small crocodile logo at the top of the clip.

A slim pen, it measures 5-1/4" capped, 6-3/8" posted and 4-5/8" with cap held aside. Although metal, this is not an overly heavy pen, due to it's somewhat slim profile. It's well-balanced with its cap posted or not, and allows for extended writing sessions

Jinhao Dancing Dragons overlay

Here's another gorgeous pen from Jinhao...the Dancing Dragons Overlay. This slim pen measures 5-1/4" capped, 6-1/4" posted and 4-3/4" with cap held aside.

The overlay is quite intricate, and features a dragon on both the cap and the barrel. The underlying red lacquer on the brass pen really makes the gold-plated overlay 'pop'!

The barrel also displays a cartouche or seal which displays the Chinese characters for 'Dancing Dragon' or 'Dragon Dance'.
