HisNibs.com update -- Monteverde bottled ink & Wing Sung

Greetings,

If the Chinese pen offerings seem a little threadbare, have no fear. I expect a major re-stocking shipment to arrive in a couple of weeks (always bearing Customs' delays).

To tide you over until then, we've just gotten in some NOS (new, old stock) Wing Sung pens -- with a couple of new models for us.

The big news is the launch of Monteverde's line of bottled ink. My first shipment of product should arrive mid-week next week, but I'm happy to take orders now.

Monteverde bottled ink



Although well-known as a pen maker -- and the world's largest supplier of ink refills -- it's only recently that Monteverde has come out with their own line of bottled inks.

Manufactured in Austria, and packaged in the U.S., the line currently consists of 10 vibrant colors. Please don't ask me how specific colors differ from Private Reserve ones -- as words fail me and I have a link on the website to some early customer reviews.

Monteverde touts its ITF, or ink treatment formula, as improving ink-flow quality and lubrication and extending cap-off time. I'll let you be the judge, but the sample of Turquoise that I've been using this week has met those claims -- and is a lovely color!

The ink is packaged in large 90ml (3 oz) bottles, and sells for $12.50.

Wing Sung 322



Although we've carried many Wing Sung models over the years, this is a new one for us. These are NOS (new, old stock) pens from circa 1996, and like all Wing Sung pens sport a Sheaffer Triumph-style wraparound nib, which I judge to be a western x-fine.



This particular model appears to use rolled celluloid for its barrel construction.

Wing Sung 840



The Wing Sung model 840 is an old friend, that His Nibs.com used to carry a decade or so ago.

Clearly based on the design of the Sheaffer Crest, I think it's a very handsome pen. It's two-toned steel nib -- as with almost all Wing Sungs, equivalent to a western x-fine -- is the wraparound Triumph-style.

Best of all, these are now $10 less than I used to charge!

On the blog...Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion car returns!

As many of you know, I'm a huge Buckminster Fuller fan http://hisnibs.blogspot.com/2004/07/heroes-still.html. I was therefore thrilled to learn recently that the architect Norman Foster re-created Fuller's Dymaxion car from the early 1930's.



In the linked video below, Foster takes his new Dymaxion for a spin. Seating 11, capable of 120 MPH and getting 35 MPG, it's still ahead of its time...80 years later.
