HisNibs.com update -- Is there a doctor in the house?
February 10th, 2012

Greetings,

We're happy to announce the arrival of the Delta Hippocratica pens -- both fountain pen and ballpoint/gel/rollerball. The fountain pen sports Delta's new Fusion nib, in five size grades. Give your doctor one today!

Quickly selling out after their introduction, we've re-stocked both the Baoer Sonata and Cotyer MB series of fountain pens.

Oh, and the perennial favorite Pilot 78G -- all nibs, all colors -- are again fully stocked...along with the Pilot piston converters for those who prefer them.

As this newsletter goes out to a mailing list of thousands of customers, please understand if there's a delay in answering your email queries or orders after one of these is sent. We will respond in order received and as soon as possible!

DELTA Hippocratica...the doctor will see you now!

I think it's pretty obvious that the first thing one notices about the pen is the clip! It portrays the Rod of Asclepius -- a wooden staff encircled by a serpent. Asclepius was an ancient Greek physician (circa 1200 B.C.) who was deified as the god of healing and medicine.

The new Delta Fusion nib, designed and produced in-house by Delta. fuses steel and 18K gold into one of the best nibs I've come across. It's available in 5 sizes: EF, F, M, B and stub (a large 1.5mm).

I only have a few of these on-hand, but once you let me know what nib you'd like -- assuming the fountain pen of course -- I'll receive your pen for inspection and any necessary adjustment -- generally within a week.

Baoer Sonata re-stocked

I'm going to start my description of the Baoer Sonata by comparing it to another pen -- the Parker Sonnet -- to which it pays homage. The Parker Sonnet has been a very popular fountain pen model, available in a myriad of finishes, for close to two decades now. The Baoer Sonata captures the main design highlights of the Sonnet at a much lower price point.

Cotyer MB re-stocked

The Cotyer MB is an oversized, lacquer-over-brass fountain pen that takes its overall appearance from both Montblanc and Pilot pens. Measuring 5-1/2" capped, 6-1/2" posted and 5" with cap held aside, it's a solid, classic-looking writer.

Pilot 78G re-stocked

Let me first try to clear up the confusion about the nib sizes available. The Japanese 'F' designation is actually like a western xx-fine nib. The 'M' is like a typical western fine nib. The 'B' nibs are actually cut as stub/italic nibs -- as you can see in the photo above -- and they produce lovely, shaded writing. I don't have an exact measurement of the 'B' nibs, but the thicker downstroke line would be similar to a western light-medium or medium.

The pen comes with the venerable pump/squeeze converter, but a Pilot piston converter can now be purchased separately.

On the blog...the 'Deep End'

"This eerie animation was hand-drawn with ink, coffee and white-out, and it will melt your face. This trippy one-minute short - titled "The Deep End" - was cooked up by Boston-based experimental animator Jake Fried, who relied on ink, coffee, white-out, and layer-upon-layer of illustrated canvas to create the downright disturbing phantasmagoria featured here.

You'll want to watch this one full-screened, with speakers or headphones on; paired with his choice of ambiguously eldritch sounds, Fried's animation makes for sixty of the most unsettling (albeit totally captivating) seconds we've sat through in some time."
