HisNibs.com update -- Conklin Zebra Crescent-filler, new Jinhao
Greetings,
Conklin adds to their Mark Twain Signature Crescent-filler line with the Zebra. I might not agree with the choice of name, but I agree with the black nib and furniture!
Two additions to Jinhao models. The Shrimp joins the Porcelain series (I'm always tempted to recall the oxymoron 'Jumbo Shrimp') and the Black & Gold joins the Colonel 163 series.
Finally, the Uranus Harlequin series has re-stocked the Violet/Gray and the Black/Mustard finishes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Conklin Mark Twain Signature Zebra Crescent-filler
I'm not sure that a mother zebra would recognize its foal if it was born with this skin pattern, but I like it better than the 'Crescent Cow' .
Name aside, this is a fantastic-looking version of the model, sporting the first black Conklin nib (available in M, F or 1.1mm stub), as well as stunning black 'furniture' (clip, cap band and crescent). As I mention on the website, I've found that the Conklin nibs run about a size smaller than typical western nibs. Hence, I'd classify the M as a fine and the F as an x-fine. The stub is a 1.1 mm medium. Please specify the nib size you'd like, by letter or 'stub' only, to avoid confusion when ordering.
If you haven't tried the Crescent yet, here are just a few of the many customer comments:
"Hello Norman, Back again ! I am greatly impressed with the Conklin line. They perform as well if not better than the other " ink shooters " in my daily use arsenal. Gotta have the Stylograph to complete the set. The mocha crescent filler is an outstanding worker and the mocha finish has a definite retro look that I love ! Being old ain't bad if you got good memories ! All these Conklin "squid squeezers" that I have purchased from you function flawlessly and have been cranking out business and personal correspondence since their acquisition." F. Y., Norman, OK
"Norman, I just wanted to thank you for my Conklin Crescent Filler (Halloween), which arrived safely and far more quickly than I expected. It writes superbly, and the medium nib writes just about exactly as I would expect from a Western Fine - exactly as you described it. I prefer to buy from you and await a delivery from the USA, because I know that I will receive excellent, fast, personalised service, and a pen that has been checked and adjusted, and is useable immediately. Thank you very much again, not only for this transaction, but for all the orders that you have completed for me in the past." M. F., United Kingdom
"Mailed you a written note today. The pen is great -- the more I write with it the better I like it. I thought it would be too big for me -- but couldn't resist the crescent filler, chasing, rose gold, etc. so bought it anyway. But it is very comfortable and lightweight...and seems to have a bit of flex to it." H. S., Swarthmore, PA
"Hi Norman. Thanks for another fine pen. The Conklin Crescent "Halloween" fountain pen arrived today and its a real jewel with its engraved crescent filler, Mark Twain's signature on the cap band and the half moon breather hole on the nib. Its a smooth writer even on rough inexpensive note paper. I'm sure its going to be one of my favorite every day pens. Also, thanks for the personal note." KFG Columbus, OH
"I got some compliments on my Jinhao porcelain sailboat pen when I took it to a recent book-signing; one person even thought I'd borrowed it from her friend that had just returned from Burma! It's a great correspondence pen, too. Thanks again for such great products and service!" Christopher N. Phillips
"Just a note to let you know the Dragon pens arrived today safe and sound! They are beautiful! One is to be a gift, but the one for myself was rinsed out and filled right away! Even though they are porcelain, they feel nice in the hand if you use them cap unposted. It writes with a super smooth wet line. Thanks so much for inspecting the nibs before selling them. I can give my gift pen with confidence!" T. C., Tecumseh, Canada
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jinhao Colonel 163 series -- Black & Gold
As this is basically a slightly slimmer version of the Jinhao General model, I had no choice but to name this series of pens the Colonel. The pen measures 5-3/8" capped, 6-1/4" posted (longer than the General) and 4-5/8" with cap held aside.
The five versions are quite distinctive in appearance, with the Silver Checks and the new Black & Gold being the odd-men-out. The other three have what I've described elsewhere on the website as a rain pattern finish, with a resin or lacquer coating for smoothness.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Uranus Harlequin series -- re-stocked
Although I realize that a Harlequin's traditional costume had more of a diamond-shaped pattern (like the Duke 116 Harlequin http://www.hisnibs.com/duke_116.htm), these pens nonetheless reminded me of that colorful motif.
These slim beauties measure 5-1/2" capped or posted, and 4-5/8" with cap held aside. The painted cap and barrel makes for a lightweight pen, so it can be used for countless hours of writing without fatigue -- if anyone truly writes for countless hours anymore!
"Got it, they look beautiful. Wonderful job, yet again. They make the best graduation presents - inexpensive to pricey, your pens always get an "ooooooh!" from the younger crowd. Thank you so much!" R. B., Ithaca, NY
An older video, but after getting rammed in the ocean, my favorite Robin Williams line: "I'm probably the only human being on the planet to piss off a dolphin".
